Ambigram.Matic 101: a quick start guide for using The Ambigram Generator

For the most comprehensive online source of information on Ambigrams, be sure to visit Word.Net's Ambigram WebSite at http://Ambigram.Com
The main thing to remember when using Ambigram.Matic for the first time is that the word or words must have the same length. At least one letter must be entered in the top field, but the bottom field is optional. You can choose to flip a word onto itself by leaving the second blank empty.
You should resize your Browser so that the examples given below each fit on a single line.

Example 1:

Upper field: ambigrams

Lower field: " "

Hit Go, and you should see the word "ambigrams" flipped onto itself in both windows, like so:

asmmbairggriabmmsa

PowerUser tip: If you don't want to go back to the mouse to click on the GO! button, simply add a space to the second (optional) field, then hit tab. The GO! is triggered by any change in the second field.

Remember, if you choose two different words, they must be the same length.

Example2:

Upper field: ambigram

Lower field: websites

Hit GO! (or tab after changing the second field) and you should see the word ambigram:

asmebtiigsrbaemw
flipped onto the word websites:
wmeabrsgiitbemsa
Note that websites was pluralized, to make it the same length as ambigram

Space (" ") is also available, allowing you to enter phrases, but you must space things symmetrically on both sides.

Example3:

Upper field: the quick fox

Lower field: run sheep run

You should see the top phrase:

tnhuer__qpueiechks__ fnouxr
flipped onto the bottom one:

rxuonf__skhceieupq__ reuhnt

You can even to flip a phrase onto itself, remembering that it must also be symmetrical.

Example4:

Upper field: Able was I ere I saw Elba

Lower field: " "

Hit GO! and you should see:

aabbllee__wwaass__ii __eerree__ii__ssaaww __eellbbaa
Note that each letter is an ambigram of itself, since this phrase is also a palindrome

Facts about the program:

Ambigram.Matic uses a sophisticated space parsing system to strip the entered strings of unintended spacing. What does this mean to the end user? Spaces on the beginning and end will be removed, and multiple spaces between words will be shrunk down to single spaces. This lets you spend more time coming up with fun phrases, and less time worrying about precise spacing (though they still must be symmetrical!)

Ambigram.Matic incorporates an exclusive graphic format algorithm that allows words or phrases up to 40 letters in length to be presented in a single, legible line. Be sure to resize your browser to take up the full screen before using Ambigram.Matic for best performance.

Ambigram.Matic requires a JavaScript-Capable Browser. We recommend Netscape Navigator 2.0 or greater. As a result of some JavaScript limitations, Ambigram.Matic may get garbled from time to time; just click Reload on your Browser, and start with a new page.

Finally, Ambigram.Matic is very much a work in progress. We at Word.Net are looking at adding features like quicker graphic downloads, case sensivity, and even an offline, downloadable version. We are very interested in your feedback. If you enjoyed using Ambigram.Matic, or have any recommendations for improvements (better letter combinations, interface tweaks, etc.) please write to Ambigram@Matic.Com

We look forward to hearing from you.
